Liga IV Mureș, commonly known as Liga IV Elite, is the regional Liga IV football division for clubs in Mureș County, România, the fourth tier of the Romanian football league system. It is organized by the County Football Association (Asociația Județeană de Fotbal) and is competed amongst 16 teams, the winner is promoted to Liga III after a promotion play-off. The number of teams that are relegated from the Liga IV – Mureș will vary, depending on the number of teams relegated from the Liga III.

History

[edit]

In 1968, along with the territorial reorganization of the country,[1] FRF proposed a competitive system in which each county would have its own football championship. This new championship format would involve both the teams that would have formerly participated in the regional championship, as well as the teams that would have been designated town champions under the previous format.

Promotion

[edit]

The champions of each county association played one another in a play-off to promote to the Liga III. Geographical criteria are taken into consideration when the play-offs are drawn. In total there have been 41 county champions plus the Bucharest municipal champion.
